This is New Order's first version of 'Ceremony' that appeared on the seven inch by Factory Records. It has only been officially collected on the New Order compilation 'Singles' (and main audio source for this 'sound still'). All the rights belong to New Order, I do not own any rights to this song.

Lyrics:
This is why events unnerve me
They find it all, a different story
Notice whom for wheels are turning
Turn again and turn towards this time
All she asks is the strength to hold me
Then again the same old story
Word will travel oh so quickly
Travel first and lean towards this time

Oh, I'll break them down, no mercy shown
Heaven knows, it's got to be this time
Watching her, these things she said
The times she cried
Too frail to wake this time

Oh I'll break them down, no mercy shown
Heaven knows, it's got to be this time
Avenues all lined with trees
Picture me and then you start watching
Watching forever, forever
Watching love grow, forever
Letting me know, forever

  • The 12" version is very good, but this one makes me want to break down and cry. Beautiful.

  • I totally agree that this is the definitive transition track, because it makes the move into high-tempo electro pop that was New Order, or at least their early incarnation, while still retaining some of the pathos of Joy Division. As a Punk turned Techno, Everythings gone Green was a milestone also.

  • I have no idea where Barney got so many killer riffs and hooks from, right through their 30 year catalogue. It is a source of constant amazement to me, even after 30+ years.

  • who said this isn't perfect

One of those tunes I could play all day long !

Kind of melancholic but yet still remains uplifting at the same time.
