  • This is part 11 of a 20 part work titled: Vingt Regards sur lEnfant-Jésus, a collection of pieces for solo piano. The French title translates Twenty gazes/contemplations on the infant Jesus. It is considered to be one of the greatest piano works of the twentieth century, and the summit of Messiaens keyboard writing.

Not sure if this was ever used in a movie.

  • I am overwhelmed by Valerie's playing once again. This is a piece that is challenging for even professionals to play well. She certainly played with a lot of character. Genius! My hat goes off you!

  • The colors you get out of the piano are exquisite, Valerie!

  • @klingsor93 Hi, I noticed your comment about the Beroff recording, which occupies such a special place for Messiaen cognoscenti- no one has matched his insight despite being such a young man at the time. I bought the score and learnt 1-4 & 7.

  • thats it, I love this piece!!!

  • This is an ELEVEN-YEAR OLD playing this music? I studied piano for 20 years and would NEVER be able to pull of such a performance! Not that it negates the recordings by Béroff and P. Serkin and others, but I agree with other commenters that this young lady has a stellar future ahead. Thanks for posting!

  • @hamiltonrrw No, this is Messiaen´s highly mystical interpretation of biblical dogma.

  • WOW! : )

  • wow, messiaen at 11, and this brilliant

  • I could never appreciate this kind of music, until I heard you play your interpretation.

    Thanks Valerie!

(and I am 66 years old)
