  • It is an italian song! You are right. The song is about a cicilian saint.

  • Pretty cool to watch, when you're used to these kind of things! Are they Americans, Swedes, or Swede-americans?

  • They are Swedes but lives in America... i guess you can call them Swee-Americans? They do speak swedish : )

  • Do you got like a swede community? where small children learn swedish and stuff like that :O?

  • Yes, there is a Swedish School in Dallas. It's one weekday per week to keep the language alive for the kids.

  • Lucia is NOT ITALIAN! It is both! It became in both Italian and Sweden om the same time, then it go to other! It's a very big thing in Sweden, and I hate when people say "it's a itlian song, you have stole our song" blah, blah!

  • oh nooo! not with piano! it's supposed to be a cappella!

  • So funny to imagen no one understand what she sings =P It's still great to know people know how to celebrate Lucia in other parts of the world than Sweden. Looking at the video makes me believe I'm home at our usual celebrating :) Great work!

    Greetings from Sweden!

  • As for Swedes in America, they can be referred to as Swedish-Americans if they choose. There is a huge Swedish immigrant (and their descendants) population in the USA, and a fairly large organization called "The Vasa Order of America" that keeps the cultural heritage alive. Growing up in the San Fran bay area as a kid there were at least 4 Swedish lodges that were part of the Vasa Order, and the one my family attended had several hundred members.

  • Yes, it's an italian song that later became a Swedish tradition as well. After her death, Saint Lucia supposedly appeared in Sweden. After her appearance there, Sweden basically adopted Saint Lucia as their own.

Nothing worth fighting over, the song was originally Italian, but as has been done with countless songs, it has been translated to other languages and had it's adopted culture's traditions added.

  • Poor Girl, It Hurts To Be Lucia, Because. You´ll Get Vax In Your Hair.. It Huurts

  • I almost cry when I see this, I am from Sicily. And Santa Lucia is originally from Sicily and it is such a pupular Saint and in Sicily we have so many traditions and celebratings abput Santa lucia, we prepare a spacial meal an 13th december. And now I see Swedish people celebratin Santa Lucia, with this Song from Southern italy!!! Its amazing! Two regions of Europe, divided by more than 2000 Km, Sicily and Sweden... And almost the same traditions!!! Crazy

  • I was a Lucia when I was nine. My Grandpa was Swedish. My Grandma was the president of a Swedish club. My grandpa passed away 04/01/2008. This song makes me cry because I miss him so much. I love you Grandpa, rest in peace.

  • Love it! Reminds me from when I was little! I was singing along!
