Apparently a flash-mob of Friday-evening cyclists decided that traffic laws didn't apply to them; they picked fights with SUVs and generally made a nuisance of themselves for more than three minutes (note that this starts halfway through the mob taking over this intersection, 1st and Denny in Seattle). You can't see it in this clip, but the white SUV tried to slip through a break in the stream to get through the intersection, and the two guys you see blocking it *actively* moved to prevent the SUV from leaving the intersection. After guy #1 leaves, the SUV backs up to bypass the remaining cyclist, but that guy keeps riding up on its bumper. I took my eye off the viewfinder for a second, which is why you can't see the SUV pushing the guy's front wheel out of the way as it escapes the blockade (although you *can* here bikers booing and calling out in mock-surprise and outrage).

I'm all for cycling, alternate transit options, and sharing the road. Now these jerks need to realize that their supposed moral superiority doesn't make them special, and that acting like it does just drops them to the same level as Bush and the rest of the ideologue zealots.

  • what is the incidence of critical injury among the critical massers?

  • @quarvis That's a good question. A lot of them are flagrantly defying the helmet law, ride recklessly, and don't seem to pay a lot of attention to their surroundings. My guess is that they are as much a danger to themselves as to others. But even if I wanted to find out, it's hard to get good data on a this sort of group.

  • @psteverific I whole heartedly agree with you. As a cyclist, I find that I can reach speeds of 30mph which will hurt if you hit someone. Cyclists by law have to obey the rules of the road to protect both themselves and other individuals such as yourself.

I signed up to the stop at red campaign because I whole heartedly believe this, and believe that cyclists who cause accidents should be followed up by the police in much the same way as car drivers.

  • just a bunch of self righteous , anti social, pathologically deluded, selfish assholes on bikes.

    these are not cyclists.

  • Hell, I freaking dare a bicyclist to get in front of my vehicle, holding me against my will like that. To regain my freedom from that captivity, the bicyclist will very likely wake up with tire tread imprints on his face.

  • @labyonnette until "we" started breeding? Are you for real. And then you talk about a mightier than you attitude? I cycle I don't support the behaviour shown in this video at all, so before you start talking about going out and killing innocent people maybe you should think about what you are actually proposing. Or should cyclists start going out and killing innocent drivers because of their arrogant and dangerous actions as well just to call it even? FFS.

  • @elstado1 There are many of us out there so if you dont meet me you may, nay WILL, meet a like minded person. What is incredulous about this is that the whole situation has been initiated by cyclists, we motorists were quite happy until you lot started breeding and spreading your MIGHTIER THAN THOU attitude. Oh and my health is fine thanks

  • @labyonnette I hope I don't ever encounter a person like you. Get well soon.

  • This is tribal behaviour

  • @elstado1 Psychopath or not, I'm out there and I drive a car. Oh for the opportunity

  • I wouldn't be surprised if someone busted out an AK! HAHAHA!!!!! That would be a neat front page!

  • @labyonnette really? If you really think that you should go see your doctor and get yourself checked out. Psychopathic commentary isn't really a normal thing I hope you realise. Hope things look up for you and you get well soon. Best wishes.

  • I stopped riding with these people a few years ago.

There is a point in stopping traffic so the group can stay together, but they take it to unnecessary levels. But if they cared about the group, it wouldn't be so spread out.

These ass holes use the bicycle in the same way the Nazis used the swastika; not as the positive thing that it is or represents, but as a means to intimidate the "non-elite" that don't fit in with their views- which include other cyclists too.
