Dershowitz is just trying to protect a fellow Jew.
Spitzer lost credibility and had to step down. This is not about balancing his performance against his personal life. His behavior displayed a lot of things....arrogance, stupidity and weakness. His future performance would have been weakened. Time to go.

Spitzer should have faced no consequences for using prostitutes? I could go along with that -- were it not for the fact that he made his career (at least partially) on going after public figures for using prostitutes

This is not about dirty politics, this is about ethics and Eliot Spitzer fell short in his by not upholding the law. He did the right thing by stepping down.
