Free will allows for the possibility of evil in the world. When we ate from the tree of knowladge we increased our ability to do evil! In other words we have come so far technologically but socially we are still very immature! That's why we have such a hard time getting along and this is why we have representative government! Which in my opinion does'nt seem to actually help because now just the richest of us seem to represent us!
I see evil in the world and I empathize with you. What's good is good and what's bad is bad, you're taught this at an early age. You don't have to be religious to understand that. I am so sick and tired of seeing evil in the world so I defend what is good in the name of what is right, it doesn't necessarily have to be for religious reasons nor is it for religious reasons. I don't have to defend good for god or in the name of god nor do I believe what I do is because of god.
We totally agree about Bertrand Russell. He was the greatest philosopher of the 20th century and very respectful of other peoples beliefs. He actually writes a good arguement for religion before writing his arguement for atheism. He was also a good person who fought against violence (he is a founding voice of the criticism against nuclear weapons).

what did einstein say about evil? Just as darkness is the absence of light. Evil is the absence of God.
