Joseph Haydn's Cello Concerto Number One in C Major is a popular concerto written for the cello. Haydn composed the score around 1763--1765 for longtime friend Joseph Weigl, then the principal cellist of Prince Nicolaus's Esterhazy Orchestra. The work was presumed lost until 1961, when a copy of the score was discovered in Prague.
Shaheen Malick, 14, performed this piece at Juilliard School for Performing Arts in New York. He is a student of eminent cellist Ms. Bonnie Hampton.

  • this is not cool

  • never seen anybody play the saltando with separate bows, i think it sounds a lot better when played spiccato

  • great music. i love cello and hayden is great. are u pakistani?

  • i am so glad to discover this video. I am a senior at Rice-Shephard and I must say I have never seen anyone play like this before. You are an amazingly talented cellist. May God bless you!

  • OMG! this kid is amazing. I have been playing learning this for nearly one year hopefully before I graduate college i can learn this.

  • hmmm... I used to play like that

    and then i turned 6

  • Almost as good as I play it. But this was 2006; he's probably much better than me now.

There were only two bad things about this performance, in my opinion:

    1. Tempo was pretty unstable. What's with the sudden tempo change at 2:11?

    2. The triplets starting from 3:42 could definitely have used a little care. Regardless of whatever bowing you choose.

Other than that, great musicality and tone colour.

  • So great! Post more videos!!

  • I don't see how religion belongs in here. Not everybody's as religious as you are, so it's really unfair and insulting to some people if you think his talent is a GIFT from "God".
