ARE THEY a BEREAN or PHARISEE?

Acts 17 says that the Bereans were more noble because "they received the word with
all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so". However, many churches today try to short-circuit biblical discernment by belittling exaggerated examples of pickiness, and then condemning virtually all forms criticism coming from the pews.

In Acts 2, the believers gathered together not to evangelize (they did that outside of the church) but to hear the Apostle's doctrinal teaching. Many churches today however, try to make Christians feel like they shouldn't expect "to be fed" with doctrinal teaching, but should come to church to do servant evangelism. This misunderstands the biblical pattern and definition for church gatherings.

Evangelism is EXTREMELY important, however it is possible to make an idol out of
almost everything, and evangelism is no different. Many churches today have focussed on evangelism and church growth as though it were the end goal, but in fact - the Glory of God is the end goal, and evangelism is one of the means toward that end.
