Dimitrakopoulos nets two in Rams win Over RMC

Tessa Dimitrakopoulos scored her sixth and seventh goal of the season to lead the Ryerson Rams womens soccer team to a 3-1 win over the RMC Paladins Saturday afternoon at Lamport Stadium. Andrea Raso added the third goal for the Rams.

Dimitrakopoulos (Richmond Hill, Ont.), who sits second in OUA and CIS scoring, had more than a handful of chances over the course of the game. She scored her first goal early in the first half when she found the ball in the Paladins crease off a Ryerson free kick.

Dimitrakopoulos added her second goal shortly after when she fired a shot past the RMC goalkeeper off of a feed from Ryerson midfielder Caroline Forsyth (Vancouver).

The Rams controlled the pace of the game in the first half and had a couple of chances to increase their lead. Along with Dimitrakopoulos several chances, Suzanne Briggs (Keswick, Ont.) had two chances that were stopped by Erica Pessotto (Milton, Ont.) for the Paladins.

RMC came out with a little second half pressure and had a couple chances early that were stopped by Rams keeper Michelle Smiciklas (Oakville, Ont.), who took over for Misha Maric who played the first half.

Ryerson used an excellent passing game to retake the momentum back from the Paladins. Raso (Toronto) scored Ryersons third goal after collecting the ball in the Paladins penalty box and finding the back of the net.

The Rams had a number of other chances to increase the lead but Pessotto came up big with a number of good saves, including a highlight reel punch save off a Dimitrakopoulos free kick.

RMC had a couple of chances late including a Samantha Beckett (Coquitlam, BC) free kick that rang off the crossbar.

Smiciklas came up with a couple more saves before Victoria Clouthier (Arnprior, ON) finally found the back of the net for the Paladins late in the game. The RMC goal was too little too late as Ryerson controlled the rest of the game for the 3-1 win.

With the win, the Rams improved to 3-3-0, while the loss dropped the Paladins to 2-6-0.
