@NicholasGeschke Underdogs fluff wise? Yes. Gameplay wise they have some of the nastiest options around; though they still managed to be a balanced army. Unlike say the Grey Knights and the Blood Angels.

I'm a former Marine player myself. If I ever decide to return to the Tabletop - I'm going to play the Imperial Guard. They're the underdogs of the 40K universe methinks.
Think about it - they fight against horrid abominations, aliens and rebels ALL the freaking time. And sometimes, they win.

besides, Space marines didn't want to leave Kronus, or that other sector(forgotten its name), and neither did the imperial guard. They both had their orders.
