I love this performance for so many reasons. In 2002 Mariah was vulnerable, suffering immense problems: sales were poor, there was still incessant negative publicity about the infamous breakdown and her estranged father was dying of cancer. This song, although commercially irrelevant, is one of her most important. It reaffirms the importance of faith and dependence on God during tough times. Confessional, humbling, emotive and spiritual. A powerful message that still resonates 9 years later.
