Dal Makhani Recipe by Manjula
Ingredients:
1/2 cup whole urad dal
1/8 cup red kidney beans (Rajma)
1 teaspoon grated ginger
1 minced green pepper or adjust to taste
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon mango powder (amchoor)
1/4 teaspoon garam masala
1/4 cup cream
2 tablespoons ghee or clarified butter
1/2 teaspoon cumin seed
Pinch of asafetida (Hing)
3 to 4 whole red chilies
1/4 teaspoon red chili powder optional
For garnish:
1/2 tablespoon shredded ginger
1 teaspoon of lemon juice
Pinch of salt

  • manjula,is it necessary to ad heavy cream for every type of dal or just dal mahknani?

    Also what do you suggest for yellow dal on regular stove not pressure cooker?

    also is it the same ingredients and time for the tiny split dal,yellow and red split.This is what i have.

  • The pinch of spice she is speaking of that is difficult to understand is HING or Heeng. It takes the place of garlic and onions since some sects do not eat bulbs of the Alliaceae family.
