David Lean about working with William Holden & Alec Guinness and "A Passage to India"

I felt William Holden should have been nominated for Best Actor
for Bridge On The River Kwai along with Alec Guiness.
Some say that role was too similar to his Stalag 13 character,
but so what?
Holden was enormously forceful and the performance is still larger than life
50 some odd years later.

Such a 'MARVELLOUS' Director.

God bless William Holden.

To hear my favorite director explain his agenda is like having an orgasm on board of Apollo 11 ! :]

@radoslav1948 Sure, man. Bulgaria is great country. Greetings.

@wheelinthesky300-"You talk about how to die like a gentleman, how to die by the rules, when all that matters is living like a human being!" Touching words. Yes, I feel he should certainly have been nominated. Also, I always thought that Sessue Hayakawa should have won. He was magnificent.

:18 Ugh, this bloody cushion is pillow biting my John Thomas.

Holden was one of those cut from the same cloth as Clark Gable: anything they ever said on screen was just so damned believable, they always played themselves, but
so what, notice they were never given any kind of phony accent, they were chosen just to be themselves...not to mention that they both also had great voices

Great director. Love what he says about Holden - totally agree!
Sir Guinness' role in Kwai is one of the best ever, Lean should talk more about him, but oh well...
