Meet Agnes Pomata, a PCCC member, who works at her local library in Charleston, South Carolina. Agnes loves her job, but works in constant pain.

Her Senator Lindsey Graham is demanding we raise the retirement age, but people like Agnes just won't make it any longer.

  • seriously. The Social Security is broke and my tax dollars are going into a system I'll never be able to use. It's time to END social security.

  • shit woman, what BS!! how heavy are those books!! Why don't you use a cart instead of carrying the books to the shelves. You should be happy that you have a jobs and they don't replace your sorry ass with a some young kid who they can pay 1/2 of your salary!! Shut your dumb ass trap and go back to work and me happy you have a easy job.

  • If Obama destroys SS he's lost his re-election already.

  • @charlestondem

"of retirement age" means the last 25% of her working life will be a vacation. That's not what SS was invented for. When I hear that last line, it makes me want to vote republican.

  • Raise the retirement age if you give us universal healthcare in exchange.

  • @skipcycle You do realize that Social Security isn't welfare, it was set up as an insurance program? It is government administered insurance for retirement benefits. So all the years that she's worked, she has paid into it so that when it was time for her to retire she could get benefits. Educate yourself.

  • @whateverwhocares2 On what do you base this statement? The fact that she works at a job even though she has pain? The fact that she expects that when she is of retirement age she should be entitled to collect the benefits she has paid into the Social Security Insurance system for? The fact that she thinks that Congress should honor its obligations to us as citizens ahead of its loyalty to big corporations?

  • The entitlement society we now live in is well on its way to bankrupting the USA. I am sorry you're having health issues "Agnes", but the founding fathers never guaranteed anyone the right to live off of everyone else. Subsequent politicians have attempted to enable that to happen and now the country as a whole can not afford it. Actuarial tables tell us that we're all living longer.

  • i've been paying into social security for 30 years. where is all that money now? i'm only 48. i still have have many years to work before i can retire. you keep raising the retitrement age, i may be dead by then!

  • Forget the math. Forget the cost. Gimme my Social Security money. Why should I expect responsible actions from my government, other citizens, or myself? Isn't the role of government to take care of me?

Raise the retirement age, reduce benefits for those not already in the SS system, and plan ahead for your own retirement. Stop thinking government is a magic genie to take care of you.
