Video footage from today's Camp Frack anti-fracking demonstration at Hesketh Bank between Southport and Preston.
Around 200 people took part in the protest which started off at the Camp Frack site in Hesketh Bank and concluded with a rousing rally close by the Cuadrilla Resources' shale gas exploration rig less than a mile from the River Ribble estuary. Local residents from Ribble Estuary Against Fracking (REAF) and the Campaign Against Climate Change joined forces for the protest, which also included members of the Green Party, SWP, Socialist Resistance and Wigan Borough Green Socialists.
If potential earthquakes weren't a good enough reason to be worried about the expansion of fracking in this country, the use of toxic chemicals in the fracking process could be even more disastrous, possibly contaminating underground aquafers from which many get their drinking water.
What we need in this country as well as globally is not shale gas and what goes with it, but massive state investment in the development of renewable forms of energy like, marine, solar and wind power.
Sunday's protest in Lancashire will hopefully be one of the first of many campaign actions nationally against the expansion of shale gas extraction in the UK in which we should be united as one in telling companies like Cuadrilla Resources to frack off!
Let's say they were all hippies requiring a shower and wanting to take us back to the stone age. This would be better than a bunch of corporate energy arsewipes who'd likely sell their own mothers to make a quick buck and who appear to have the combined intellect of an amoeba. It also strikes me that the stone age you say they want to go back to would be an advance on where you'd like to take us all.

Would have been great even if had been a bunch of Socialists but it wasn't. No one is crying but are all up for fighting what is yet another example of the unacceptable face of Capitalism. It's not cheap energy either, just requires less of an immediate capital outlay than what is really required - which is a major long term investment in renewables. Concerning the brilliance of the clown - don't they say it takes one to know one? Three lies plus an opinion does not constitute an argument!

A bunch of socialists crying because a company wants to provide them with cheap energy. The clown is brilliant though.

@slugmandrew - Devastating intellectual argument there against the anti-fracking campaign.
