A Day in the Life of a Tree highlights humankind's fragile and influential relationship with the earth. Created during a four-month residency at the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, the installation was designed in cooperation with the museum staff and through extensive prototyping and research with the museum's visitors.
The environment is fantastic and living, at once inviting and unknown. Once intrigued, the viewer can step into and manipulate a video landscape, the viewers presence responsible for either burning or growing each tree.
The installation allows viewers to play both roles, letting one decide which action fits them best. Ultimately destruction and regeneration are viewed as one, twin aspects of human nature which coexist and have equal appeal.
