She actually did butcher the varnam. She has was terribly off thalam, probably due to the mridangist speeding up. Also, she mixed up the order of the lyrics of the second chittaiswaram after the charanam. She sang R, G, SRGM before singing RGMNDPM.
She puts herself on stage as a professional singer, therefore we as the audience are allowed to criticize her. We are paying for the shows, we have every right to say she's wrong if we have reason to back up our statements.

when sung with more mastery of the ragam, charukesi becomes one of the most beautiful ragams ive ever heard. this is just my humble opinion. Of course if you have heard the song "raagathil siranthathu raagam ethu?", you would know the answer to which is the most excellent ragam. :)

Can you elaborate on that? Are you saying the song was composed by him? Surely, the viruttam is older than that.

Thanks. Updated info. Also noted that coincidentally, the Hindi film song "Shyam teri bansi" is similar to "kuzhaloodum kaNNan" and is also in chArukEsi.
