At Southern Seminary, TRUTH is our foundation for learning and our LEGACY runs deep. Each year, thousands of students see their VISION come alive while fulfilling their ministry calling with us.
We believe that we are living in serious times and we are looking for students who are serious about impacting our world with the gospel of Christ.
@lilphil58 - You make an excellent point. There was neither need of nor mandate for man-made seminaries in the New Testament. The same holds true today. The institution that the Lord Jesus Christ established was the New Testament church - not a non-profit, pay-for-play, para-church organization. I'm not suggesting that ministers should not be well versed in scripture, indeed they are admonished to study the word of God diligently. I'm stating that seminary is an unscriptural institution.

@lilphil58 To lump all those who rock the suit and tie as arrogant is like me lumping everyone who wears plaid as a lumber-jack (I wear plaid). That is a stereotype that has some hints of truth, but there are many men who wear suits and are not that way.

@MrBeautifulba1 You just stereotyped everyone who has worn a suit ever into an arrogant man. Though I do agree that there is a fair number of Southern Baptist" (I am Southern baptist) wear the suit and tie as an illusion to cover what they really are, I do not agree that they are all like that.

@theearstohear You do realize there wasn't such a thing as a "seminary" when the Scriptures were being written and canonized. Would you want a doctor who had not gone to medical school, would you want a lawyer that hadn't been to law school? Young men go to seminary to learn from older who have been in ministry before them, so like iron sharpens iron we grow from those who came before us. Grace and Peace

There is not a single verse in the New Testament that tells men to pay money to attend a seminary in order to be trained for gospel ministry. Paul had done this prior to his conversion and he considered it dung. The biblical admonition is to "study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." (II Tim 2:15)

Acts 2:38
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."

@neacej1 Thanks. Could you answer my this. If there are 10,000 20,000 or what ever the number may be how can they all be correct.
Read 1 Tim 3:15 and John 21:25
There are very clear that truth is not in the Bible of any kind but in the Church. Since there was only one Chuch when the books of the Bible were declared devinely inspired then would it not make sense to find truth in that Church which was founded by Christ himself

@peaveawwii1 That 33,000 number has been refuted in many instances before. However, they use it for the world, not the US alone.

@peaveawwii1 You were in a Landmarkist Baptist church. The earliest known Baptist church was in Amsterdam in 1609. Also, I'm a Baptist and I don't use the KJV.

Being a preacher is a very noble calling but there are over 33000 christian demoninations in the US alone. How can they all be correct. Remeber Mt 16:13-19. Jesus intended for one Church. In the end times there would be many false teachings.
One who is called to preach the Gospel should consider the chuch that approved the Gospel as being devinely inspired and flee man made doctrine. Anyone who has a relationship with Christ knows this because the Truth is not something but somebody
