Rainwater harvesting,H2S strip test for e.coli and SODIS

This is perhaps the simplest test to check for bacteria in water. Once the presence is established by the water in the bottle turning black. Using simple solar disinfection method SODIS (www.sodis.ch) can then treat it to potable levels.
These 2 simple tools are potential life savers.

That was very interesting. I've heard of people using sunlight to disinfect water, but I'd never heard any details. I had wondered how long (give or take) a bottle of water should be left in the sun before it is likely to be free of bacterial contamination. Your video gives a good idea.

I have a question. If you allow the water to sit in a plastic container in direct sunlight for a long period of time, don't you run the risk of the plastic itself releasing chemicals?
