Intense pulsed light has become a workhorse within dermatology practices throughout the country. Intense pulsed light is similar to laser in a sense. It's a very intense, focused light beam, and depending on the wavelength, which is let through on to the skin and through the skin, either red vessels and red discoloration and/or extra pigment can be targeted. The usual IPL's do both. For people who have chronic sun damage to the extent that they have extra modeling and freckleing of their skin or extra pigmentation oftentimes coupled with extravascularture, so the skin is ruddy and freckly and not close to what it once was a before they developed sun damage. These treatments done in a way which is spread out usually over a period of five to six months gradually will diminish both the redness and the pigmentary changes that are there and renew the skin in ways that before a IPL were not possible.
