Did they seal up the holes in the side where you used to go aboard and leave during the tour? When I was a kid this was my favorite exhibit whenever we went to MSI on school trips and I always bought one of the U-Boat model kits in the gift shop until I had my own bathtub "Wolf Pack"!

I'm still upset and didn't get to see it! Back in 2004 in April I was there for the hyperion convention and it was off limits to see! NOw I get to see why! :) To this day I've not seen it. Oh and the flag is because it was captured in war time as a "prize of war".

An INCREDIBLE accomplishment.............i have every intention of VISITING the U-505 this year, maybe late summer ^_^ i CANT WAIT! Awesome video showing how she got moved there!

@travscorsair The U-505 is the 1st war ship to be captured by the U.S. Navy since the War of 1812. From the time of it's capture it became United States property and flew the U.S. flag. I wasn't in the navy and don't claim to know all of the finer points of Maritime Law so you would need to do more research to get a better understanding than I can give. Try contacting the museum and share with all of us!

@Velotracer it's not a pit.it's kind of underground hangar.there is a parking lot over that thing now.this museum is in chicago and i've been there a couple of times.if u ever come here,this is the best place to go!
