Hello! I'm Kristin Volk on this Monday, October 8, 2007 with a UPI Headline Update.
Iraq's President says he thinks 100 thousand U.S. troops could return home by the end of next year. President Jalal Talabani also says he favors dividing the country three ethnic regions. The timetable that Talabani is referring to is much closer to what Democrats want than President Bush has forecast. Bush has said he hopes to bring 30 thousand troops home by next summer and perhaps another 30 thousand by 2009.
Nearly three hundred Chicago marathon runners are recovering today after being treated during yesterday's race in record heat temperatures. One runner collapsed and died during the event. The race was run in 88-degree heat with high humidity. That topped the high of 84 degrees in 1979. Organizers shut the course down four hours after the start of the race because of the record temperatures.
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has announced that he will not go ahead with a general election in November. A Conservative surge in the polls reportedly persuaded Brown to drop the idea after weeks of agonizing over it. Brown says he wants more time to set out his vision for the future of Britain. Opponents are accusing him of putting political gamesmanship before running the country.
Former U.S. Senator Fred Thompson is admitting that he's a bit rusty as he prepares for his first debate against rival Republican U.S. presidential hopefuls. Tomorrow, he'll be on stage in Dearborn, Michigan for a televised debate. Thompson entered the race in late summer, choosing to skip previous debates. The TV actor says he's been rehearsing for the event with a former New York senator.

Where is the traitor Obamas birth certificate that proves he's American born, which is a major requirement for the job of the President?
Obama says nothing about the protesters in Iran but jumps on the Castro and other bad guys bandwagon in demand to reinstate the ousted Honduran President. He doesn't love America.
