Just about every beer drinker in America is familiar with Pabst Blue Ribbon. The brewery has been around since 1844. After years of decline, Pabst grew sales through a below-the-radar marketing campaign that appealed to anti-establishment, urban hipsters. Is this beer worth the new found hype? Is this a working man's beer? Does this beer hit the spot with the Better Beer Authority panel? Tune in and find out!

"On Tap -- Pabst Blue Ribbon

Hi. I'm James Knott and this is your Better Beer Authority. First, thanks to Rocky & Jessie for wearing their Better Beer Authority T-shirts to the Tennessee Cigar & Brew Fest. Shirts are for sale on our website and if you send me a picture of you in your shirt I will feature it on the show.

Now on with the review... "Heinekin, Fuck that Shit! Pabst Blue Ribbon!" says Dennis Hopper in the movie Blue Velvet. Pabst -- once the beer of your grandfather, now the beer of your hipster neighbor.

The Pabst Brewing Company was founded by Jacob Best in 1844. It was founded in Milwaukee, WI, then moved to Woodridge, IL and recently announced that they are moving the headquarters to Los Angeles.

Pabst Blue Ribbon has 4.7 percent ABV and 144 calories per 12 oz bottle. It is brewed under contract at several locations around the country with the help of MillerCoors.

It is an American Adjunct Lager that uses Corn Syrup as it's adjunct ingredient.

  • I picked up Pabst Blue Ribbon one day on a whim, because of the price. At the time, I didn't know it was a trendy "hipster" beer. I took it home, drank it, and liked it. I've bought it many times since learning that it's a hipster beer. I'm tired of that hipster stigma. It's so silly, and pointless. Who gives a shit, though, right? You like what you like. Drink what you like. I do. I'm finishing off a 12 pack of Blue Ribbon right now. :) Cheers.

  • @WehrmachtLuftwaffe I agree. People should drink what they like and not worry about what other people like. I only brought up the hipster thing because that is an important part of the resurgence of Pabst Blue Ribbon.

  • It's so good it has a ribbon on it

  • @hctimhtims Just one of many reasons for its awesomeness.

  • Its a shitty beer but it gets u drunk!

  • @plainoldstickfight Most of them do if you drink enough.

  • @spewintothis I don't crave Pabst these days, but I would never turn one down - wait - I never turn any beer down.

  • I like Pabst a lot for what it is. I know there are obvious stigmas to the beer as it was adopted by the counter culture of Portland, Oregon back in the early part of last decade, and morphed into this underground sensation after being considered left for dead in the 80s and 90s. But it's good. I have no complaints. And all my cool friends drink it. Ha! I do agree that the price is slowly rising, but the reasons are as much economical as anything else.

  • After many years of AAL lagers I decided to give good old PBR a try and I'm glad I did, hands down it has better balance and is more drinkable than the others, and I can actually taste some hops in there.

And as far as price is concerned, I picked up a 12 pack of PBR for the same price as a 6 pack of the others. As far as AAL's go...its blue ribbon for me.

  • im white trash and im in trouble! :D
