'Let my prayer rise up', P. Tchesnokov(1877 - 1944)

'Let my prayer rise up to thee as the incense, and let the lifting up of my hands be an evening sacrifice.'
Psalm 140, 1-4

This chant is performed on Wednesdays and Fridays during Lent in the liturgy on the consecrated gifts. It expresses the striving of the soul to raise its voice to God.

The Orthodox Church observes four major Lenten periods each year. Of these, the most important and significant is Great Lent preceding Easter and lasting for seven weeks. A Lenten period comes before any of the major feasts of the Church as an opportunity to come into the fullness of the feast and to appreciate the significance of the feast.

  • Where can I get this Cd recording?

  • @007Phonse Amazon

  • Absolutely wonderful! Great to know that Russian Orthodox is proud of it's traditions and music. Sadly the Church of England has become totally irrelevant with stupid clergy and bishops who just want to lose all the christian beliefs and traditions.

  • @007Phonse Yes great orthodox's tradition. Also in GB for Men and Boys Choir: King's College, St John's College(Cambridge); Choir of New College, Christ Church Cathedral Choir, Choir of Magdalen College(all in Oxford); Westminster Cathedral Choir, Westminster Abbey(London) and more.

  • @treblechoir99 Yes at the moment - great choirs, but once the women priestesses get at them, God help us!

  • @007Phonse Oh ok, now I undestand. You spoke about the controversy in the Anglican clergy. Many traditional Anglicans asked to join the Catholics of Rome. Yes delicate situation.

  • @007Phonse One of the Christian traditions which is seldom used now by the Church in the West is the choral singing during the Mass (the Catholic Mass). As a Filipino, however, we Catholics in the Philippines sing the liturgical songs and the communion songs complete with the choir and, if a solo is required in the song, a soloist singing the solo part.

  • This is a song for Great Lent. Sung during the Presanctified Liturgy. Absolutely beautiful but more than that the meaning is what is so important. It is followed by prostrations and prayers.

  • So beautiful... I miss Russia so much <3

  • Merci Denis pour ce partage musical et mystique ...magnifique accord des deux styles de voix qui semblent dialoguer !Mais je suis tellement allée au fond de mon être que j'ai dû attendre pour vous remercier .... A bientôt Denis

    Amitiés

    Marie
