Why do people always say install gentoo?
-
Trying to install gentoo lately, i solved all the errors i've founded before (even the grub error 15) and finally got gentoo working... but i did the "manual kernel stuff" cause if i use the genkernel like u did i get this error EVERYTIME:
Error: Failed to compile the 'modules_install' target...
Do you know why this happen?

I cannot find any information about entering init=/linuxrc ramdisk=8192 into the grub.conf. It does not seem to be included in the gentoo install handbook either. This leads me to ask is this really necessary and what exactly does it do?

Went through the entire installation, but when I rebooted it, it said no operating system found and didn't go the GRUB screen.
Man, I'm im a network behind a ISA Proxy, and I cant go on becouse the proxy cannot logon my user on linux, any tips?

No!!!! i followed your video and got to the end. Rebooted and hit enter and it gave me this "Error 15: File not found" What went wrong??! I'm super new at Linux. Help? I install this on my mac using VMFusion.

@vizi0123 error 15 is a grub error, you defiantly did something wrong when creating the grub file. You probably gave the incorrect path to the kernel. If you look in this video at around 21:45 I showed how to do the grub and the important thing is it may not be the exact same name because based upon when you are doing this, the kernel probably got updated resulting in a different name. Example: instead of /kernel-genkernel-x86-2.6.36-gentoo-r5 it may be -r6.

@DaDistro cool, so how do i go back in and change that?

@vizi0123 @vizi0123 check out this to get back up and running forum.soft32.com/linux/gentoo-installation-comp-turn-ftopict325207.html, then once your back in type 'uname -r' without the quotes, this will show you the kernel version, then go back into your grub.conf and correct it.
