Here's an example of the pledge drives during Doctor Who on PBS stations in the 80's. Every PBS station was different... they aired different Doctors, showed it at different times and some showed the episodes and some showed Doctor Who edited together as movies. This is from channel 5 WUFT in Gainesville Florida. At the time channel 5 was VERY sci fi friendly and they aired single Doctor Who episodes every day Mon-Fri at 6pm and a full "movie" on Saturdays at 6pm. They also aired Twilight Zone, Blakes 7, Tripods, Hitchhikers and was one of, if not THE only PBS station that ared Star Trek. WUFT was out of the University of Florida and the sc fi was popular with the college students, before the time of the sci fi channel. They even had sci fi Thursday Night, or something like that for awhile. In the early 90's the station got a new program director that wasn't into sci fi and all those shows were dropped. This station stopped airing Doctor Who around 1992. Durin the pledge drives they gave away Doctor Who coffee cups, calanders and T-shirts ect if you donated money to the station in the name of Doctor Who.

At the time I edited out most of the pledge drive footage from my videos because I just wanted the stories. Now I wish I had more of it now.

  • hahaha alligations :D i love a good pun

  • It's such a crying shame that more and more PBS stations are loosing Dr Who. Maryland Public Television just stopped airing Classic Dr Who a month ago after being on for 25 years in the movie format. Making MPT the last PBS station to show Classic whos in the movie format.

  • "Battlestar Galactica" has now finally come to a close after four seasons (five, or not), they were actually on an Earth destroyed 2,000 years earlier, and the Earth they land on? Ours, in the world of "Battlestar Galactica". Live long and prosper.

  • I saw the new series on WLIW 21 New York City, but sadly, it's only THE FIRST SEASON, luckily, it shows how the episode was made. My favorite? "Dalek". Well, I love that Sci-Fi Channel. It airs Doctor Who and my mom loves the new version of "Battlestar Galactica", and oh! P.S. "Battlestar Galactica" is going to take a year-long break due to the writer's strike, Wait until next year to see the next adventure and see a destroyed Earth 600 years from now. Wait 'til next year! Wait 'til Next year.

  • I belive MPT is the only remaining PBS station that still airs classic Dr Who's in the Movie format.

  • The Independent Florida Alligator? Do they print "Alligations" about people? Ha ha ha ha ha... sorry.

Anyway, shows anyone who got annoyed at the BBC talking over end credits how annoying this could *really* be... though recently they've been just as bad in this respect.

  • All right! I'm calling up. Jesus, just stop.

  • As a kid, I would stay in all day (and up all night) to watch these marathons. Our local PBS station even managed to land an interview with the third Doctor. Sadly, PBS doesn't air these anymore -- which is a crime. The only Who you can see on US TV is the new series on the SciFi Channel -- interrupted with crappy commercials.
