@CalanonC Actually, Blackbeard was the one who made the voodoo doll and empowered it. In the book, which inspired this particular plotline, Edward is often called hunsi kanzo, which is essentially an assistant to a mambo/hougan (voodoo priestess/priest). He was immensely powerful in voodoo, favored by Baron Samedi (the guardian of the graves), which is the reason for the lit matches in Blackbeard's beard during the mutiny, as the Baron's symol is smoldering fire.

@CalanonC Well, even though he did die, I don't believe him living has anything to do with the doll working or not. Considering Angelica found it at the end of the credits in the water, it is clear that it will play some role in the next story. Mostly likely a big role,and the ship in the bottles will come into play somehow. Perhaps there will be a sort of war between the pirates, maybe Angelica becomes like her father or worse, relentless and willing to do anything to avenge her father's death.

I found the voodoo doll to be a very interesting, not only is it cool to see that kind of magic in a Pirates film, but also gives a reason for Jack to go along with Blackbeard to the fountain. Not to mention it sets up a great potential plot for the 5th movie if they do make one, which I hope they do because then they could not only build more of the doll and it's effects on Jack. It also could help tie up the loose ends between Jack and Angelica, maybe allow us to learn more about their past.
