The R&GVRRM rosters two small 0-4-0 steam locomotives, both of which are under evaluation for restoration back to operation. One of the engines was built by the Vulcan Iron Works in 1918 for the Brooklyn Navy Yard as their #12. The locomotive was donated by a private individual in 1997. Located at a small railroad museum in Flemingville, NY, the #12 had to be trucked to the R&GVRRM's museum in Rush, NY.
This video highlights the unloading of the engine from a low boy trailer which was outfitted with a custom built ramp and rail set built by the R&GVRRM. We see the engine arrive at the museum, the trailer positioned, and then the engine pulled off of the trailer using the museum's General Electric ex-Rochester Gas & Electric 45-tonner locomotive #1941. This brought the first steam engine to the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum on this rainy November 4, 1997.
The R&GVRRM welcomes all donations to help us return this steam engine to operation. The museum also welcomes anyone interested to come and volunteer with us in the restoration of our steam locomotives and other equipment.
Very interesting. I hope to come out to the museum to see this loco sometime. It looks like a real gem.

Is cochroach technicalogicaly impaired? Modern diesel locomotives like General Electrics are now more effecient than ever and can move tons more than the old steamers! I'm a railfan of both and a model railroader in the diesel era of 1980'1990's. Why do you think the trucking industry uses rail? Price of feul is one. Next time Roach do ya homework!

@rgvrrm Hello, I just wanted to let you know this before a large battle in the comments start. Can you please block Cockroach2008 and remove his comments? As you can see, he likes to start battles with railfans over steam preservation, and he is making it hard for us to enjoy steam locomotive videos.

Was that a special flatbed trailer with rials built into it?

@ble643 Correct! One could, but it is not cost efficient. Maintenance on the motive equipment & the trackway to support steam locomotives is VERY COSTLY! These expensive teakettles are never comng back! Good riddance!
Junk all the remaining steam locomotives! Cut them apart & melt them!
Thank you for the EXTREMELY FLATTERING compliment! I SINCERELY appreciate it!

@Cockroach2008 you suck some steam locomotives could do the work of two diesels.

This thing should have been junked 65 years ago. It is nice to know it is never going to run again & will be reduced to a pile of rust!
Junk the steam locomotive!

reminds me of the time we moved the General II at SERM. Only thing is she's a 4-4-0 and we had to move the tender and engine seperately. Too bad our drawbar got crushed when we moved the engine off but other than that it wasn't a bad move.
