What is this alien Monster from the ocean?

This monster was washing up on Atlantic Beach, NY on Monday May 30th 2011 at about 5:00pm. We were collecting sea shells when we observed this LARGE pale white slimy monster aproaching the shore line. The seagulls had a try at it, but weren't very interested. The body was about 4 feet long, and the arms reached about 12 feet from the body. It appears to have 2 eyes on the top of its head and a large mouth underneath (about the size of a softball). I've lived on the beach for over 20 years, but never encountered an animal like this! Any clues?
