  • So how would you do it if you were reusing the piston John?

  • The pistons would have the notch already machined/cast into the piston to facilitate the clip removal. These pistons could be reused as I machined them.

  • Yikes, why did they design the lock like that? Seems silly. Is there some sort of magic factory tool to do that or does Chevy expect you to throw the pistons away?

  • Not sure about why GM would design something like that - maybe they think this is a throw-away engine, not an uncommon practice w/manufacturers. Yes, the manufacturer does have a special toiol for installing the clips.

  • pretty nifty

ya havent made a video for a while been busy guess?

  • Have been busy on this end nad not had a lot of time for video work. Will try and get some more stuff posted as I have time.

  • I just used a scribe (dentist tool) and snap ring pliers (right angle tips).

    But drilling works too

  • @Oldbmwr100rs I AM NOT YELLING PPL,THAT THE WAY I WRITE AND SORRY IF A BOTHER SOME ONE :(,AND I THINK I GO TO MAKE A VIDEO I HAVE THE PRESS AND THE RIGHT TOOL(I FORGET THE NAME OF THE TOOL LOL )

  • @GOCHELIN You don't need to yell..In this case perhaps heating the pistons up to a little over 200 degrees F will loosen the pins, then press them out. It will take a press to do it still, but you're less likely to gall the piston pin and piston. The manual should have the proper info for you as well. Remember, heat is your friend!

  • @fiatnutz mate, my ls1 conrods and piston heads connected together with wrist pin by heat and pressure, there are no snap rings used, I have removed wrist pins at friends shop for free by pressure machine, that was easy, I did all reconditioning work to the engine myself, now I wanna put the heads and rods together, but machinery shops ask me 45-65 dollars for repining the each wrist, nearly $400 all up, I am on low budget any easy way I can do it myself? thanks

  • that looks more like a ls7 rod and piston

  • u can do that with a leatherman, endmill lolz

  • @GOCHELIN First step is to turn caps lock off. Noone likes someone yelling at them.

  • I WANNA REMOVE THE PISTONS FROM ROD,THE PISTONS AND RODS ARE FROM JEEP 4 LITERS ENGINE,THE PINS ARE PRESSEND,AND THE PISTON IN THE SKIRT DONT HAVE ENOUGH MATERIAL TO HOLD,WHAT U THINK IS THE BEST WAY TO REMOVE,I HAVE IN MY HOUSE A 20 TON H PRESS,I REMOVE ALREADY THE RODS FROM OTHER PISTONS,BUT I DONT WANT DAMAGE THAE PISTONS(FROM 4.O JEEP)BECAUSE I NEED FOR MY STROKER POOR MAN KIT :(

  • is there another way to do it beside drilling your pistons? like some you can do it at home yourself..
