This project took me allmost 2 days and that's because of the formulas and the calibration of the cam with the laser, camera orientation must be parallel with the laser. i was inspired from here http://sites.google.com/site/todddanko/home/webcam_laser_ranger . You can download my entire project from here: http://rapidshare.com/files/188824471/dbpcap.rar
and compile with visual c++ 2008, but very important, you must change the parameters depending on your construction.EX: my distance between the cam and laser is 7 cm. Yours could be diferent. And the error corections are found with continuous measurments between certain distances.

if you enjoy my work please take 5 sec from your life and visit my google ads from http://l2zones.com/index.php , thank you.

  • Helloman,

If you still working on it.

I would like you to scatter laser beam by small uniform sieve. Your laser diffraction pattern will be grid instead only one.

    :)

  • @pop25811 sorry dude, i've left this project behind 2 yrs ago

  • I love this project, im going to try and use it and see if i can use my laser harp and use the basics of your project to use the webcam to pick up the beams when they are broken to play a midi sound for each beam when i break the beam... Im no good a C++ but its worth a go.. lol..

    oh wow.

  • what kind of webcam use? can you tell me the specifications of the camera?

  • What is max range ?

  • Excellent work, very inspiring.

  • Found your video while searching for a cheap LIDAR-solution for a project, which I have to do for university.

Already had an idea of getting range via laser and webcam in my mind, but your implementation is just incredible awesome! I think I will use parts of your program for mine, if it's allowed ;)
