All the metals in Group 1 (lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium and casium) react with water. Caesium is the most reactive of all the Group 1 metals. In this slow motion clip, I add 1g of caesium to a trough of cold water. Caesium costs about £60 per gram. You can see the caesium sink to the bottom of the trough and then explode with almost enough force to break the trough.

  • thats some good glass

  • @OrionWong1 Scientists can't make enough of it to test it. Also it's unstable and is not practical for this type of experimentation.

  • Is that glass bullet proof? It's so strong!

  • @OrionWong1 Francium (Fr) is radioactive, it naturally occurs in uranium but is the second rarest element on earth

  • now lets see it at full speed please

  • I wish I'd did this kind of experiment when I was in science... ;_;

  • @JDHawt what is it? rubidium?

  • wow this is amazing. the most reactive metal in G1, hang on, what about francium?

  • what the fu-boom!
