Say, Thank-you, I'm from the Stand Up generation and have always wanted to learn, now I am going to. If you don't mind estimating. How many self taught hours would I expect to put in to get decent and how many to get half as good as you. You are really an inspiration and play the way I can only dream of. WOW thanks very much Bob for the kind words. I am absolutely flattered! Well, there aren't that many progressive rock fans around nor flute players who are inspired by this particular style of playing that was initially INVENTED by Ian Anderson. In order to create a progressive sound out of the flute, you need to reinforce the sound by singing and playing the same notes simultaneously. According to Ian, three weeks after he managed to make some noise out of his flute, he was

playing it on the stage! If you're not interested to learn how to play classical music, which I would highly recommend, you can pick up the flute and get yourself a fingering chart and practice daily to develop the necessary technique and the right embouchure for playing Tull music.
