Berkleemusic is behind the scenes at the Rethink Music conference in Boston with Maggie Martin, Manager, EMI Music Publishing/Music Resources West-Film & TV. Maggie shares a bit of her experience with music supervision for film and TV.

Maggie Martin, Berklee '05, was one of the thirty power players honored in Billboard Magazine's 2010 "30 Under 30″ list, recognizing the young music executives driving the business forward. She began her career at Peermusic in Los Angeles and joined EMI Music Publishing in 2005 where she is now a Manager in EMI's successful Film & Television unit. She manages creative pitching and clearance of the EMI MP worldwide catalogue for Television, Film, Trailers and Promos. Maggie is responsible for increasing EMI MP's American Idol catalog presence by 33% over previous years, doubling the market share of any other publisher on NBC's The Singing Bee and achieving triple digit growth within ABC Family productions.

  • Film and TV music successfully rethought. Killer presentation and great ideas. Really enjoyed it!

  • listen to what she's saying... she knows her stuff!

  • Aren't masters copyrightable as well? I'm not understanding the distinction she is making that there are "copyrights and masters" as though they are two separate things. I think instead of copyright she means "publishing", right? Am I missing something here? Is it a common industry usage or term of art to call publishing rights "the copyright"? This is confusing.
