i saw the biggest gar of my life down here in alabama on bayminette creek, it was longer than out 12 ft boat and about 4-5ft in circumference! its head was at least 4 ft long!

yes, it's a piece of nylon rope. the gar's beak is so tough that a hook won't pierce it, so we use pieces of frayed nylon that can get tangled in their teeth. half the fun of gar fishing is getting the rope out of the gar's mouth and holding the fish up for a picture without losing a limb :)
