The Shanes - No-Nox

Found this record on my grandmas attic, my dads first record :) By swedish 60's band The Shanes, it was a promotional record given away at Gulf gas stations, as far as I know, No-Nox is a kind of premium gasoline sold back in the day in sweden :)

Watch for the heavy break in the middle :)

Where is "Extra Kick"? I think that side has the edge over "No-Nox". No pic sleeve? Great band- I wish their albums would be reissued!

@mndandy The Extra Kick side was quite scratchy, that's why I decided to put this one up but I like both the songs, don't know if this was released with a pic sleeve since it was a give away record at gas stations.

@zombiemoshpit There is a pic sleeve for the Extra Kick 45. The front has them jumping in the air ala Beatles, wearing fab purple shirts and trousers. The rear sleeve shows them fueling up their super-duper cool Shanes van with some No-Nox at the Gulf station.

An edited version of this song could have been used as the soundtrack of a late 1960's Gulf commercial in the 'States (since it was sung in English), with a voice-over tag at the end of the spot.

Such a spot could have been introduced during NBC space coverage (which Gulf sponsored) by Frank McGee as thus: "We'll be back to NBC News live coverage of Apollo (number) in a moment, after this swingin' commercial from Gulf, performed by Sweden's number-one singing group, The Shanes".

Not anymore, they don't! The gasoline is now known as Gulf Premium Unleaded.

But, since Gulf has begun making its way back across the U.S., and they now opened two stations so far here in the Detroit area, I filled up my 2007 Chevy Cobalt LS with the Gulf Premium Unleaded earlier today. Although it was different back in the 60's when I was just a little kid, I could feel a bit of that "extra kick" in my Chevy's engine now! (That is, my car performed *great* with the Gulf gas.)

For those too young to know, Gulf No Nox was the high octane premium gasoline that was sold until the end of leaded gasoline. The last carsof the muscle car era requiring premium were the Chrysler Hemis in 1971. Never heard this record. Now that I have i dont think I missed anything.

My copy of this does have a picture sleeve, with the band at a gas station.
