I do not know how many bottles of alcohol I have consumed listening to these guys! I am afraid I will become an alcoholic because of Clancy brothers! (AND the beautiful Irish folk songs)

His description of an Irish wake is the standard by which all other descriptions must be judged.
Now when the gentleman starts reciting James Joyce, don't panic. You need to either be dead drunk or possess an IQ of about 500 to make sense of James Joyce. If you can, just sit back and watch and listen to that most lovely Irish brogue, its sound and cadence. It has been said that the Irish brogue is second in sweetness only to the sound of angels singing, so just watch and listen.

Historically accurate too. I've been to more than a few wakes
at people's homes in rural Ireland (I'm over 70 years old)
In USA, there's a Southern rural custom of "Sitting up with the dead"
Most of the people in the mountains of the Carolinas, Georgia & in
both Virginia states came from Scotland & Ireland -- Highlanders,
Scots-Irish & Irish
(Fighting Natives on the frontier was preferable to starving
in one's native land; after being dispossessed of one's
farms during the land clearances)

God bless the Clancy brothers and Tommy Makem. What a bunch of great entertainers. God bless Wilma Wade, librarian at Central High School in 1961 who turned me on to Tommy, the Clancys and Celtic music.

Meet a guy by the name of legendary big Gerry in Reno. He was selling a bunch of cds featuring his hammered sulcimer. One of the cds was a live performance with many of these songs. I must admit, I generally listen to thrash metal and punk, but I absolutely love these tunes!!!
