  • Excellent video - I want to restore a couple of really old Dietz lanterns at my Mother-in-laws farm and was searching for info. What about something like a nice dark Hammerite finish? It may seem selfish/stupid to others, but I'm not worried about the value of the lamps, purely their aesthetic appeal to me :) Therefore I'm going to finish them as I see fit.

    Keep up the good work!

    Dave.

  • @dmckergan Hey Thank's man, make sure you check out my other lantern video's there's ton's of great information in them!!! That Hammerite finish would look super sweet!!!

  • Thanks man!!! The Traffic Guards are a cool looking lanterns and for $10 what a deal. Someone gave me a "Little Wizzard" in rough shape with a leaking tank and i used a gas tank sealer called POR-15 and i fixed the tank, the company claims it will outlast the tank! I will post a vid of the finished lantern next week when it has it's new paint job, thanks for checkin out my video i hope to have more in the next couple of weeks!! -SxDxFan

  • Will the oven cleaner method in the trash bag remove rust as well?

  • you have to use high temperature paint for the chimney portion. otherwise the heat from combustion will turn any color paint to black charcoal. Cold blast lanterns have a spring loaded chimney section. Hot blast has a bare frame crossmember at the top. Aladin lamps out of chicago are collection sought after interior oil lamps.

  • my antique Diets full sized lanterns are painted dark green. The traffic guards are painted safety red.

  • 70 rating is the hour rating. Hours of useable light before needing to refill fuel. Lamp oil is scarce during a emergency. Tiki torch oil (non citronella) will burn well indoors. It does gell badly when you get it below like 20 some degrees but will clear up when warmed up. Tiki brand oil has a large parafin content to it. You can use citronella oil if you wanted to use it for outdoor use

  • Hey, can you show me how to remove the burner on the Dietz Little Giant? I just bought one and I don't want to break it.

  • Rather than paint it, could you have it electroplated with a heat-resistant decorative metal? Or tin? I think having the Air Pilot re-tinned might look cool.

  • what can i do to take off the filler cap because on mine it seems just stuck because of the rust and i dont want to break it

  • hey sxdxfan, can you show us the difference in a dead flame lantern. or have them going side by side with a cold blast lantern ?

  • I would love to see your whole collection. i collect oil lamps too but the kind you burn indoors that they mde in the 1800's but i am considering branching out lanterns seem pretty interestihng

  • Hey can you make a video on how to change the wicks out. I just found a little wizard the other day and I'm having trouble figuring it out...
