Ippon Seoi Nage and the Knee-Drop version of the throw. This is a core throwing technique. The term "seoi" means to carry over the back and doesn't mean "shoulder" as often translated. However, the common name for this throw is the 1-Arm Shoulder Throw. Too many well-meaning people have mis-translated the Japanese name and incorrectly taught that the attacker should throw the defender over his shoulder. The way we teach Ippon Seoi Nage is actually more of a hip throw than throwing the opponent over the shoulder. While the Kodokan syllabus lists Seoi Nage as a "Hand" technique, the primary focus is not to "jack" your opponent up and over your shoulder. Performed by Derrick Darling and Jeff Owens. Produced by Dave Jennings.
