The advisors appear to be the alien masterminds behind a plot to, what else, take over the human world. Advisors appear to have powerful psychokinesis abilities, and possibly other unknown mental abilities. They feed off of other life forms using a long proboscis, which you will see in part 2.

They never fully explain it. My guess is that they want to implant a parasite into his body so that he can breath the atmosphere on whatever planet he's going to.

Why would he be helping you destroy them if he were one of them? Unless, of course, he's a rouge advisor that's attempting to take over. However, based on the main Half-Life 1 conversation, with him, he's a middle man working for someone else.
