Paul Welch was a sound engineer for Lynyrd Skynyrd. His account of the crash is amazing. To see the full interview go to www.NashvilleOnFaceBook.com and go to the video section and look for part ONE and TWO. This video is 15 minutes of part one which is 20 minutes. The total interview is about 40 minutes. There is also an unedited hour long version available, if their is interest we'll post it. YouTube has these silly limits on video size or we'd have it here. This 15 minute clip is only being posted to make people aware of it. Interview by www.SmokeyBarn.com

  • I thought I had seen all of the Skynyrd material on Youtube. Great interview.

  • Fascinating. Great interview--and the little bit of humor makes sense. I have never heard that the fuel gauge wasn't functional at all, only that there were fuel issues, also never heard that they sat on the ground for so long. Several people have insisted that the plane was at full capacity but according to Mr. Welch the seat next to him was empty. I always wondered why the plane wasn't fixed there, now we know. I wish Gary or Artimus would write a book and set a lot of the rumors straight.

  • i was only 11 and living at home in dublin, ireland when this sad event happened to the original members & this guy will dine out for the rest of his life for being unfortunate to be there...great band with great classic songs.

  • I was living in Misssissippi , in high scholl not far from where the plabe crashed and I remember the day Ronnie died.

  • great info, wasn't so sure about the laughing, but i guess the sound guy was ok with it.Loved that about Collins in the hospital trying to wake him up saying "give me more monitor" that was beautiful.

  • man i flatter myself pretty knowledgable skynyrd stuff - wise

but i never even heard a this dude

    really interesting interview

dude seems like a good guy

and the anecdote re collins visiting him in the recovery ward

    really touching

    t/y for uploading this tube

  • I suppose that a very rich fuel mixture could cause a "late" burn in the cylinder causing flame to be ejected when the exhaust valve opened. At any rate, a very rich fuel mixture would cause fuel consumption to increase. It's a shame that the band members didn't stand up and refuse to fly in it.

  • @awsom7 ...

Three band members and one road crew member died in an airplane crash in 1977. Lead singer Ronnie Van Zant was killed. In 1987 the band reformed with Ronnie's younger brother Johnny as lead singer. Johnny looks and sounds very much like Ronnie.

  • wtf i dont get it if they were in a plane crash how come i was at there consert 6 days ago?

  • this is a great interview, very detailed. Well done.
