On North Avenue a few blocks west of Harlem is the mecca of Italian beef sandwiches Johnnies. It is an old school beef stand no indoor seating just a counter and winter & summer you will often find the lot full and a line out the door. I don't no how the other food is because I can never not have a beef because they are that good. I have had their lemon ice and that is first rate as well. And if you really like eating there are three great restaurants (Cuban, Italian/pizza, & Chinese) All in the next block.
This is one of a series of videos we will be doing on outstanding non-mega chain fast food joints in the Chicago area.

  • I use to go here all the time as a kid. 47 cents for hotdog and fries!

  • Delo sandwich

  • I just ate there yesterday :)

  • this is my great uncle johnnie's place. since he is my uncle i always thought it was called UNCLE JOHNNIE'S, though i was little. He's so nice but doesn't work there anymore. :(.....

  • Is Johnnie's the best beef place in all of Chicago? This is definately true. I moved from Chicago in 96 to the south and every year that I've come home I've eaten an italian beef, double dipped with peppers almost every single day. Those who have not tried them must do so. Hell of a sandwich!!!!!!!
