Michael Grecco (born May 20, 1958) is an American photographer. While studying filmmaking and photography at Boston University, Grecco began working freelance for the Associated Press as a photojournalist. During that time, he also began his career as a magazine photographer, which has included an extensive body of work for various national magazines including Time and Newsweek. As a staff photographer for daily metropolitan newspaper the Boston Herald, he won numerous Boston Press Photographers awards, most notably for his coverage of Hurricane Gloria in 1985.

As a regular contributor to People, Grecco made his transition from hard-news photojournalism to photographic coverage of celebrity-driven events, including the Golden Globes, the Emmy Awards and the Academy Awards. Seeking a more personal experience with his subjects, he used this experience to launch his current career as a celebrity portrait photographer.

Since 1992, Grecco has been regularly shooting magazine covers for Time, Wired, Entertainment Weekly, ESPN, People and others. His celebrity portrait subjects have included Martin Scorsese, Hugh Hefner, Robert Duvall, Lucy Liu, Will Ferrell, Mel Brooks, Christina Applegate, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Penelope Cruz, Jet Li, Bill Murray, Joaquin Phoenix and Rene Russo. Grecco's work has gained attention for its intimate quality and ability to capture the emotion as well as the appearance of his subjects.

  • Sure, but if you compare photography to doing war, Michael comes with tanks, aircrafts, and with the backup of heavy artillery :]

Really hard to call it "guerilla", to much heavy equipment in use.

  • What a JOKE!

    Guerilla shooting?

    Please!

Way too many people and equipment plus I'm sure they had a permit!

    LMAO!

  • 3:28 COP CAR IN THE BACK. of course there was a permit. real guerilla.

  • Not a single mention to the music. Hope at least they got the rights for it to embed it in this video (BTW the soundtrack bed required much more effort and money to be produced than this, otherwise great , behind the scenes shoot and its final shots).

  • I liked the video and watching the techniques used to capture the images - however, I would not really consider this guerilla lighting - too many people and too many lights, etc. To me guerilla lighting is going light weight, portable stobes and not having 6 people assisting, etc.

  • gay and fake

  • @dorozina What Grecco used was no more complicated or heavy weight than that. Either way, don't confuse "run and gun" with "guerilla". Two completely different things. =]

  • @thecinemaoferic I don't remember who it was, but I've seen the video of pro shooting on the streets, and equipment used was camera + two small snooted strobes on monopods, carried by two assistants. And that was "guerilla". Setup and shoot in two minutes, than change location.

  • @ajjs02 Finally, someone with their head on straight!

  • @dorozina I feel really bad for you if you consider a sun swatter, a reflector or two, and a key light, "heavy equipment". You must have a heart attack watching Drew Gardner in his element on set. =]

  • 3:27 - cop car on BG :)

    guerrilla style shooting eh?

this is why i hate LA. you need to pay money to do photography on the streets. sucks majorly :)
