Frankly, Galician sounds so similar to Portuguese that to me it seems right the idea that the actual language is still Galician-Portuguese: one of its dialects, the Portuguese one, developed without later influences from Spanish and spread to the whole world; the other was under Spanish influence and now sounds slightly similar to Castillian but has a vocabulary and a grammar that are 95% equal to Portuguese. I don't know how that is not more recognized...
