Edward Estlin Cummings (1894 -- 1962) is known as e. e. cummings. The lower case rendering of his name reflect his style of poetry, which broke the conventions of spelling and syntax, by the inclusion of elements such as open parenthesis with no closure, not capitalizing proper nouns, compound words of his own invention, and names and other elements then considered avant-garde. For all this, most of his poetry retains classic structures, such as the sonnet form.
