  • High Mike...anyone have this on video that you know of? Other than the short version the Late Night Show?

  • I would dearly love to see such a video, but sadly none has emerged to date. I don't know of anyone who has seen 'Kissing You Goodbye' on video, other than the shortened version you mention. We can always hope that one will appear.

  • Well..not for a lack of trying to sneak my Sony camcorder into three of his concerts including what I'm hearing and it was taken from me because of the second row seats I had and security was on the alert and took it all three times. I was lucky they gave it back to me all three times! All in all after 17 shows I attended through the 1990's, after the third time I just didnt even try for fear I would not get my equiptment back...3 strikes and your out!

  • Well that's a shame. At least you tried!

  • Hi Mike,

I saw a 2 hour including commercials movie, or documentary 3 years ago about JD and don't know the name of it.

A few GREAT clips I remember, JD came home from a business trip and his wife had all the huge trees in the yard cut and stacked. JD went crazy and started cutting the inside of the house with a chainsaw. Another clip, JD and his dad would cruise in JD's lear jet and talk about early rough times they went through.

  • That was 'Take Me Home: The John Denver Story', starring Chad Lowe, a TV movie that just about everyone agrees failed in every department.

It screwed up the timeline; it over-emphasised JD's problems with his late father; it denied the very existence of his younger brother Ron,;and it brushed aside John's life of social activism for many causes outside of music.

Yes, it was inspired by John's autobiography, but it took too many liberties with fact.

Let us hope for a better movie.

  • @VeryFineWhine Yeah Ive seen it..it was funny.

I was at this show too. Tried to get it on 8 mil video cam but they took it from!

Im lucky they gave it back after the show and lucky they did not throw me out!

As they did in NJ 1996...but I bought other tickets outside and walked right back in, after I went to my car and changed my tee-shirt!

  • Sadly ITA with Mike about "Take Me Home: The John Denver Story." Sadly not only were so many facts distorted, but Chad Lowe's wig and horrid accent were constant irritants.

JD's magnificent life story deserved FAR better IMHO. I felt they could have done a much better job showing how he was a complex man, but also what he accomplished.

Sadly I doubt there will be a 2nd movie which makes it even worse. I agree it definately failed in just about ever dept cept for JD's vocals.

  • mayamgk, there is a GREAT video of the first time JD did this song. He was on a Charles Grodin chat show & Carl Reiner was the other guest. I have it somewhere on a VHS (not that I'd know how to upload it). But I know there used to be a partial clip of that performance. Unless that is the one you are thinking of.

For audio check out the Harborlights version. Wish there was video 4 that. I was there & he was SUCH fun that night, in esp good voice, and had a lot of fun w/this song!

  • A very funny gag .... "If I' had shot here when I met her, I'd be out of jail by now"

Not very politicallly correct, I'll admit, but the audience loved it.
