This video is dedicated to Ed Mitchell, "Mr. West Penn Railway", who passed away recently. He filled in all the blanks I could not figure out about trolleys and their routes in Southwestern PA. I took this journey in his honor. Take a rare trip on a private streetcar right of way that ran between McClellandtown and the Brownsville Junction of the West Penn Railway in Fayette County PA. Much of the streetcar system ran through woods, farmland and provided the only transportation for mine and coke oven workers from 1912-1952. This video gives you an idea of what your ride may have looked like 70 years ago. visit www.stuffthatsgone.com for more interesting tidbits!

  • did you explore on foot further into the bush at roads end?

  • @Railrodder No. I am able to see these things because I work all over the place in sales...one of the problem is I am in a suit and nice shoes all the time... so can't do much outside the car

  • I attended Edenborn school, later German Twp H.S., Then ww11 3 years. Rode the street several time in my day. Enjoy the videos. Very fond memories. My parents are buried Masontown cementary, so I visit the area once in a while, thanks GM

  • @theqman1956:Thank you for this video, which gave fond memories of riding this trolley rail in my youth, from Edenborn(in German Township) , to Uniontown; or in the opposite direction to Masontown. I visited Edenborn last year, for the first time in many years. Although the area is not what it once was, It warmed my heart to see thenatural beauty or the place, and feel the tranquility that I enjoyed as a boy. Hope you find more information on West Penn Rail, leading to Masontown, & Grays Ldg.

  • Trolley's are really wonderful things, especially when you are a little child and get to grow up with like 5 + in your grandparents backyard. I'm the granddaughter to Edward Mitchell and it was always a circus but fun to get to hear the stories and be told where all the trolleys ran. Especially when it turned into a fieldtrip which meant we'd go walking through the woods where tracks used to lay or where they still did lay. I can even remember the summer he bought some PA trolleys, such memories

  • Love these streetcar videos. One of my fondest childhood memories is riding the streetcar from South Greensburg to my grandparents in Mt. Pleasant. Also up to Greensburg to shop. What great fun.

  • @theqman1956 Ahh Ok. I understand. Your videos intrigue me! Here in Kingston Ontario Canada, we once had a street railway. It was called the Kingston Portsmouth and Cataraqui Electric Railway Company. I ceased operation in 1930. There are still traces of the route to be seen around the city including one forgotten pentograph pole. I am doing some research and hope to do a walking video of it.

  • @signingupisretarded Im with you....I love this stuff!
