It is by turns side-splittingly funny, tragic, upsetting, stupid, side-splittingly funny, touching, poignant, beautiful, life-affirming, side-splittingly funny and above all, brilliant. - NME

At 14, Toronto school friends Steve "Lips" Kudlow and Robb Reiner made a pact to rock together forever. Their band, Anvil, went on to become the "demigods of Canadian metal," releasing one of the heaviest albums in metal history, 1982's Metal on Metal. The album influenced a musical generation, including Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, that went on to sell millions of records. But Anvil's career took a different path - straight to obscurity.

Picking up on their story 26 years later, director Sacha Gervasi has concocted an achingly touching and often hilarious account of Anvil's last-ditch quest for elusive fame and fortune. Not since Metallica: Some Kind of Monster has such an incredibly raw, candid, hearbreaking and truly inspirational story been captured on film. At its core, Anvil! The True Story of Anvil is a timeless tale of survival and the unadulterated passion it takes to follow your dream, year after year. Anvil rocks - it has no other choice.

In the words of Rolling Stone: Some of the scenes in Anvil are so outrageous, it feels like this must be a Spinal Tap sequel. It isn't. These guys are for real.'

Even if you're too metal to cry, you might get choked up... an unexpectedly-great, and emotional story :)

I wouldn't buy an Anvil record but these guys are so passionate and likeable you want them to succeed so much it hurts! It brought a tear to my eye and a lump to my throat.I kept asking myself why they carry on after so many setbacks? It's not just about the music but about determination and the strength of human spirit in the face of adverstity. If I had a hundredth of Lips' passion I'd be a proud man.The ending is wonderful.God how I wish them all the best!.

A brilliant and moving film.Like many I don't like the music but the film is an absorbing story about human endeavour and persistance. It's about standing up against all odds and to try and try again.I felt for "Lips" and Rob and wanted them to succeed so much-it moved me to tears. The ending is wonderful.

The burning question: Did Lips pay his sister back for the CD?

    Woa, cool.

I had some Anvil records (dont know where they are right know, some of the stuff you borrow someone and forget who it was), but for me they were "this cool obscure band no one except a few freaks like you knows about", like Sanctuary, Exciter, Raven, Riot... never thought someone's gonna make a movie about those guys, though they really deserve it. "School Love" was one of THOSE songs when I was sixteen, everyone who had a youth in rock should know what I mean...
