  • Can't believe they basically destroyed all of the f-14s so parts wouldn't fall in Iran's hands. Is that how bad our security is? Cant just put them away in case we need them in the future?Iran could just buy parts off the Black Market if they didn't destroy them all? I don't get it. Well, if you want to see one of these fly again, gotta go to an Irianian air show. Last I read they are modifying some of their f-14s.

  • @nimaside I am sure that the F-14s weren't destroyed just because the Navy thought that their National Security was too lacking but in this day and age you never know who is watching and who may be plotting what. Not everything though was destroyed as many of the US Navys aircraft, mainly the Hornets, could accommodate most of the Avionics boxes and other electronic equipment given the amount of upgrades given to the F-14. It was mainly airframe structure and components that were destroyed.

  • Other than, those sitty P&W engines, why not re-engine them with GE engines & put in new avionics

  • @pushitgently001p ther later F-14B and F-14D variants did have GE engines and upgraded avionics which aided in the air to ground role for the tomcat.

  • Me think there be "drivers" on here. Although the tomcat was troublesome, and had too many damn parts to maintain, and more often than not the motors were known to cause flameouts, still - 2 American F14s against a squadron of enemy aircraft was more than enough to put the fear of God into those enemy pilots and cause them to rethink their reasons for being there and make them bugout. Today we have NOTHING like the legendary F14. India & Iran are the ONLY countries with flyable Tomcats.

  • @RockerDave12 correction...Iran is the only country to have purchased the tomcat outsides of the USA. To date Iran still flies their jets. India has never had any tomcats.

  • @tisoy909 YA GOT THAT RITE!

  • @nimaside They were obsoleate there was no need for them.

  • @nimaside There are still many F-14s out there. Ive seen a lot of them because I live at the end of the runway of where the F-14 was born. Calverton.

  • @nimaside They destroyed the unused F-14's because they were concerned the next administration would sell the parts to the enemy. The obama administration licks everyones nuts, especially the enemies nuts. look at China, Obama is having a wonton and fried rice cockfest as we speak. just my .02 cents.

  • Certified Mig Killers!!!

  • @nimaside i THINK ISRAEL i still using the f14 they bought from the us,so i would guess they either bought or got the spare parts they could use

  • @nimaside Alot of them were put in storage like alot of other planes in bone yards

  • @tomcatter11 True, but it still seems overkill. I mean I ran still have f-4 phantoms. We are not only still using them for target practice, but airshows cause people still like to see these aircraft fly. Who wouldn't like to go see an f-14 at an airshow. Airshows are full of aircraft the U.S. no longer use. I don't know, it just seems kind of fishy.
