All of you are saying it was unnecessary but he MJ did that out of instinct, not to show off. He saw Sam Perkins coming from his right side, and sSam Perkins didn't just have the nick name "long arms" for nothing. He had a very long wingspan. MJ didn't want to get blocked or fouled so he switched hands, it was no show off move.
